On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, information and a presentation were given during the General Members’ Meeting regarding the developments for our new multifunctional sports complex and the situation concerning our fields. In this Breakdown Special, we report on this so that members who could not attend are also informed.
Establishment of the board committee for complex development
In November 2025, the board revised the structure for overseeing the development of the complex and the layout of the playing fields.
Due to the impact and the pace of progress, a board committee was formed consisting of a delegation from the board, supplemented by permanent and occasional advisors (experts in specific areas). Later in the process, a project leader will be appointed who will, among other things, direct specific working groups.
Municipal Council
On December 4, 2025, the municipal council unanimously passed a motion that the municipality, DIOK, and other stakeholders (such as Motorclub Randstad) will conduct a feasibility study for the realization of the XL variant.
Important aspects include:
- the XL variant requires more construction space
- traffic and parking policies
- financial and legal feasibility
- General Members’ Meeting
By relocating the Motorclub and its parking area, the grass fields can be shifted approximately 8 meters toward the Hoge Morsweg, thereby increasing the construction space on the current site of the accommodation.
These developments were also featured in the news in November and December 2025 (Leids Dagblad, Leids Nieuwsblad, Sleutelstad, and Leiden Into Business).
Construction of artificial turf rugby match and training field
Future outlook for 2026 and beyond
On the site of the 3 October Hall (which will be demolished starting in April 2026, and CBR will vacate before October that year and then also be demolished), an Urban Sports Park will be created, including a large skatepark, callinetics, and a small basketball court.
In 2028 (possibly earlier or later), the Steenwisselplaats will be transformed into a park as part of the second green ring. Part of the Steenwisselplaats will be used to extend our main natural grass field in accordance with WRU standards.
