DIOK loopt trots mee in Taptoe Leidens Ontzet

Ook dit jaar was RC DIOK weer van de partij tijdens de traditionele Taptoe ter ere van Leidens Ontzet. Met een fantastische opkomst van jeugdleden én senioren straalde de club in het blauw-geel door de Leidse straten. De sfeer zat er goed in en DIOK trok veel bekijks, vooral met de spectaculaire reuzenrugbybal die de show stal! Een prachtig visitekaartje voor onze club en de rugbysport in Leiden en omgeving.

Sportprogramma voor de DIOK jeugd

De sportpsychologen Sonali Garg en Petra Sauter van Tough Minds, organisatie voor sport- en prestatiepsychologie, zullen eind november starten met hun Mental Skills Program bij DIOK.

Dit jaar richten ze zich op de CJC, ouders, trainers en coaches. Het doel is om de club’s visie op mentale gezondheid te laten aansluiten bij de ontwikkeling van mentale vaardigheden, ter ondersteuning van zowel welzijn als prestatie.

Belangrijke focusgebieden:

• Jeugdspelers: Doelen stellen, zelfvertrouwen, leiderschap, emotieregulatie
• Ouders: 1–2 workshops over “Hoe ondersteun ik mijn sportende kind het best”, met praktische handvatten zoals wat te zeggen na een wedstrijd en hoe effectief te communiceren met coaches
• Trainers & coaches: Workshops over het waarom en hoe van het creëren van een gezond prestatief klimaat, het toepassen van positieve coaching principes, en het begrijpen van neurodiversiteit — inclusief hoe je spelers met bijvoorbeeld ADHD of andere neurodiverse profielen het best kunt begeleiden op het veld

2e Handskledingbeurs op DIOK

De dagen worden korter, de temperaturen dalen... en dat betekent maar één ding: tijd om de thermo’s weer uit de kast te halen! Vaak kom je er dan achter dat alles net een maat te klein is geworden.

Maar wacht nog even met shoppen, want op woensdag 19 november van 18.30 tot 20.00 uur wordt er weer een gezellige tweedehands sale in het clubhuis georganiseerd. Kom snuffelen tussen allerlei sportieve vondsten en scoor iets moois voor een zacht prijsje. De volledige opbrengst gaat naar onze jeugdafdeling – zo steun je meteen een goed doel.

Heb jij nog sportkleding liggen die te klein of te strak is geworden? Lever het in bij de speciaal geplaatste containers in de kantine, zodat we er samen iemand anders superblij mee kunnen maken. Uiteraard is ook nieuw te koop zoals sokken, broekjes, stropdassen en vergeet niet onze fantastische DIOK sjaals! Daar kom je de winter wel mee door.

Nieuwe website voor DIOK

Achter de schermen wordt hard gewerkt aan een geheel nieuwe website voor onze club. Een nieuwe frisse uitstraling en met meer mogelijkheden om informatie te delen. We hopen dat de website voor het einde van het jaar live kan gaan.

Maandelijkse schoonmaakdag, GBTM trapt met succes af!

Op zondag 26 oktober hebben vrijwilligers/ouders van onze GBTM-jeugd de aftrap gedaan voor de maandelijkse DIOK schoonmaakdag. Dit seizoen is DIOK begonnen om naast de jaarlijkse schoonmaakdag, een maandelijkse variant te doen. De voordelen laten zich raden. Na een paar uur zag de club en de kleedkamers er weer spic en span uit. Chapeau! 

Op zondag 14 december is de eer aan de CJC!

Actuele pasfoto verplicht bij spelen van competitiewedstrijden

Als spelend lid kun je alleen competitiewedstrijden spelen als onder meer een duidelijke, actuele pasfoto bij de Rugbybond is geüpload.

Je kunt een nieuwe actuele pasfoto zelf uploaden via de Rugby Nederland app. Switch naar onze DIOK club account en kies bij Menu direct ‘Bekijk mijn lidmaatschap’ bovenaan het scherm. Bij ‘Profiel bewerken’ kun je de nieuwe foto uploaden die ook voldoet aan een gezichtsfoto voor een ID-bewijs.

Als het niet lukt kun je ook de nieuwe foto sturen naar Kasper en Karlijn van de ledenadministratie: ledenadministratie@diokrugby.nl. Duidelijk aangeven om wie het gaat.

Zuid-Afrikaanse topcoaches geven trainingen bij DIOK

Tijdens de herfstvakantie kregen de jeugdleden van Rugbyclub DIOK drie dagen lang training van vijf ervaren coaches uit Zuid-Afrika: Anton Moolman, Bronson Weir, Zander Erasmus, Spha Sibisi en Donald Ngwenya. Zo’n 100 spelers van 10 tot 17 jaar deden mee aan deze bijzondere clinics.

Naast de jeugdtrainingen verzorgden de coaches ook een exclusieve sessie voor DIOK-trainers en seniorenspelers, waarin kennis en ervaring werden uitgewisseld. Hierdoor zijn ook de banden tussen DIOK en de Zuid-Afrikaanse coaches verder versterkt.

Onze jeugdvoorzitter Stephan Ong:

“De trainingen waren leerzaam en inspirerend. Onze spelers hebben veel opgestoken en genoten van het samenspelen met coaches van dit niveau.” Speciaal dank aan de vrijwilligers die deze clinic mogelijk hebben gemaakt, in het bijzonder Bas Bogaards.

Rabo ClubSupport 2025: €770 voor onze jeugdactiviteiten!

Met trots kunnen we melden dat de Rabo ClubSupport-actie van 2025 onze club een prachtig bedrag van €770 heeft opgeleverd.

Dankzij alle leden, familie en supporters die op onze club hebben gestemd, kunnen we dit bedrag besteden aan leuke en waardevolle activiteiten voor onze jeugd.

Tijdens de feestelijke uitreiking mocht onze penningmeester, Edward van Lent, de cheque in ontvangst nemen uit handen van de vertegenwoordigers van Rabobank. Hij sprak zijn grote dank uit aan zowel de organisatie als aan iedereen die onze club een warm hart toedraagt en die mee heeft gewerkt aan de actie.

Algemene ledenvergadering december 2025

Medio december wordt de reguliere Algemene ledenvergadering gehouden waar onder meer de jaarrekening 2024-2025 zal worden toegelicht. De exacte datum/tijd wordt in Breakdown van november bekendgemaakt en ruim voor de vergadering zullen de agenda en de bijlagen worden toegezonden.

Politiek op bezoek bij DIOK

Op maandag 27 oktober mochten we de D66-fractie van de Leidse gemeenteraad verwelkomen in ons clubhuis voor hun buurtbijeenkomst voor de Mors. Ook sportwethouder Wietse Veldman was van de partij. Het was een interessante avond waarbij buurtbewoners, en wij als club, volop de kans kregen om vragen te stellen en onderwerpen aan te kaarten die ons bezighouden.

Namens DIOK was het bestuur aanwezig. We hebben van de gelegenheid gebruikgemaakt om specifieke punten voor onze club te bespreken, waaronder het lastige onderwerp van het betaald parkeren bij het complex. Tot onze tevredenheid werd onze suggestie om het parkeertarief vanaf 17:30 uur te verlagen naar een paar dubbeltjes per uur meteen positief ontvangen. De fractie gaf aan zich hiervoor te willen inzetten, een mooie stap vooruit!

Daarnaast is er gesproken over de toekomst van ons sportcomplex en de situatie rond de velden. Al met al een geslaagde avond waarin DIOK zich goed heeft laten horen!.

DIOK proudly joins the Taptoe Leidens Ontzet parade

Once again this year, RC DIOK took part in the traditional Taptoe parade celebrating Leidens Ontzet.

With a fantastic turnout of youth and senior members, the club shone in blue and yellow through the streets of Leiden. The atmosphere was great, and DIOK drew plenty of attention, especially with the spectacular giant rugby ball that stole the show.

A wonderful showcase for our club and for rugby in Leiden and the surrounding area.

Sports program for DIOK youth

Sports psychologists Sonali Garg and Petra Sauter from Tough Minds, a sports and performance psychology organization, will launch their Mental Skills Program at DIOK at the end of November.

This year, they will focus on CJC players, parents, trainers, and coaches.

The goal is to align the club’s vision on mental health with the development of mental skills, supporting both wellbeing and performance.

Main focus areas:

• Youth players: goal setting, self-confidence, leadership, emotion regulation
• Parents: 1–2 workshops on “How to best support your sporting child,” including practical tips like what to say after a game and how to communicate effectively with coaches
• Trainers and coaches: workshops on why and how to create a healthy performance climate, applying positive coaching principles, and understanding neurodiversity — including how to best support players with ADHD or other neurodiverse profiles on the field

Second-Hand clothing fair at DIOK

The days are getting shorter, the temperatures are dropping... which can only mean one thing: time to dig out those thermals again. And often, you’ll find that everything’s just one size too small.

But hold off on shopping a bit — on Wednesday, November 19, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, we’ll be hosting another fun second-hand sale in the clubhouse.

Come browse through all kinds of sporty finds and score something great for a small price.

All proceeds go directly to our youth department, so you’re supporting a good cause too.

Do you still have sports clothes that have become too small or tight?

Drop them off in the special collection containers in the canteen, so we can make someone else very happy with them.

New items are also available — like socks, shorts, ties, and of course our fantastic DIOK scarves. Perfect for the winter.

New website for DIOK

Behind the scenes, we’re working hard on an entirely new website for our club — with a fresh look and more features for sharing information. We hope to go live before the end of the year.

Monthly cleanup day – GBTM kicks off successfully

On Sunday, October 26, volunteers and parents of our GBTM youth kicked off the new monthly DIOK cleanup day. This season, DIOK has introduced a monthly cleanup in addition to the annual one — with great results. After just a few hours, the club and changing rooms were spotless again. Well done.

On Sunday, December 14, it’s CJC’s turn.

Current ID photo required for league matches

As a playing member, you can only participate in official league matches if, among other requirements, a clear, up-to-date ID photo is uploaded to the Rugby Union database.

You can upload a new photo yourself via the Rugby Nederland app:

Switch to our DIOK club account and select “View my membership” at the top of the menu.

Under “Edit profile,” you can upload a new photo that meets official ID photo requirements.

If that doesn’t work, send your new photo to Kasper and Karlijn from the membership administration via ledenadministratie@diokrugby.nl, clearly stating the member’s name.

South African Top coaches train at DIOK

During the autumn break, DIOK youth members enjoyed three days of training from five experienced coaches from South Africa: Anton Moolman, Bronson Weir, Zander Erasmus, Spha Sibisi and Donald Ngwenya. Around 100 players aged 10 to 17 participated in these special clinics.

In addition to youth sessions, the coaches held an exclusive workshop for DIOK trainers and senior players, sharing valuable insights and experiences.

This also further strengthened the ties between DIOK and the South African coaching team.

Our youth chairman, Stephan Ong, said:

“The training sessions were educational and inspiring. Our players learned a lot and really enjoyed working with coaches of this caliber.” A special thanks goes out to all volunteers who made this clinic possible — especially Bas Bogaards.

Rabo ClubSupport 2025: €770 for Our Youth Activities

We’re proud to announce that this year’s Rabo ClubSupport campaign has raised a fantastic €770 for our club. Thanks to all members, families, and supporters who voted for us, this amount will fund fun and meaningful activities for our youth.

At the festive award ceremony, our treasurer Edward van Lent received the cheque from Rabobank representatives.

He expressed his deep gratitude to both the organization and everyone who supports our club and contributed to the campaign.

On behalf of the entire club: thank you all for your support. Always Together, Stronger Together.

General Members Meeting – December 2025

The regular General Members Meeting will be held in mid-December, during which the 2024–2025 financial report will be presented. The exact date and time will be announced in the November Breakdown, and the agenda and documents will be sent out well in advance.

Local politics visits DIOK

On Monday, October 27, we welcomed the D66 party from the Leiden City Council to our clubhouse for their neighborhood meeting for De Mors. Alderman for Sports Wietse Veldman was also present.

It was an engaging evening where local residents, and we as a club, had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss topics that concern us.

The DIOK board was present and took the chance to address several club-related issues, including the tricky subject of paid parking at the complex.

We were pleased that our suggestion to reduce the parking rate after 5:30 PM to just a few cents per hour was received positively. The council members promised to pursue this, a great step forward.

There was also discussion about the future of our sports complex and the condition of the fields. All in all, it was a successful evening where DIOK made its voice heard loud and clear
