Er is ook uitgebreid stilgestaan bij het afscheid van Sarah Niggebrugge die haar laatste actieve seizoen heeft gespeeld en zijn dankwoorden gericht aan de afscheidnemende (hoofd)coaches: Lodie van Staden, Gareth Davies en Piers Tolson. | | | Winnaar foto contest 2024 | Een jaar geleden hebben we de grote afbeelding in het clubhuis vervangen door een actiefoto van onze eigen DIOK spelers tijdens een wedstrijd. Direct daarna ontstond het idee om er een jaarlijkse contest van te maken van de mooiste, dynamische wedstrijdfoto tijdens het rugbyseizoen. Naar aanleiding van de oproep zijn ruim 40 foto’s ingestuurd vanuit bijna alle teams, van klein naar groot. Hieruit blijkt ook dat DIOK weer een traditie erbij kan schrijven, de fotocontest is een blijvertje. Uit de inzendingen staken een paar foto’s bovenuit. Daaruit heeft de jury een keuze gemaakt en dat is dit jaar een foto van een line-out van het eerste herenteam tijdens een pittige ‘old school muddy’ thuiswedstrijd tegen de Oysters op 9 december, geworden. De foto is gemaakt door Erik van Kordelaar en behoeft eigenlijk geen toelichting, het vertelt zelf het verhaal, en is inmiddels ingelijst in het clubhuis. | | | Andere bijzondere inzendingen gaan we publiceren op onze website.
| Algemene Leden Vergadering 27 juni 2024 | Op donderdag 27 juni heeft de jaarlijkse Algemene ledenvergadering plaatsgevonden. De vergadering verliep in een prettige open sfeer en er zijn veel goede vragen gesteld en ook suggesties gedaan.
De sluitende begroting voor 2024-2025 is door de penningmeester uitgebreid toegelicht en is door de ALV vastgesteld. Ook zijn de bestuursfuncties-voordrachten omgezet in benoemingen.
Het bestuur bestaat nu uit:

Vertrekkende secretaris Arwin Akse is bedankt voor zijn goede werk en zorgen. | | Nieuwe hoofdtrainer en trainers | Voor de aankomende twee seizoenen kunnen wij als club met trots melden dat Marshall Milroy de nieuwe hoofdcoach wordt van RC DIOK 1. Marshall is een Australische, maar in Nieuw-Zeeland geboren rugbytrainer die in het verleden zelf op posities 10 en 15 heeft gespeeld. Na de eerste gesprekken werd al snel duidelijk hoe Marshall wilde spelen en hoe hij het team wilt opbouwen.
| | Marshall Milroy: “I am really excited about the challenge and there is some genuine excitement with what's ahead. The team and club have some real foundations that are in place and I am hoping to add my expertise and value to help bring the team back to the winning culture that they are known for in past years.
It is always tough coming to a new club and getting to know everyone on a deeper level on and off the field but the coaching group that has been assembled to assist the playing group and myself is something special and we are really looking forward to getting started. It will take some time for us to Gel as coaching staff and playing group but there is something special with this group and I am looking forward to being on this journey together.”
Met veel trots kunnen wij vermelden dat oudgedienden Leon Koenen en Richard Manley aankomend seizoen de geheel nieuwe trainersstaf gaan versterken van RC DIOK 1. Met het oog op de toekomst vonden wij het als club belangrijk dat het team mede wordt geleid door spelers die de club van binnen en buiten kennen. Hiermee hebben wij met Leon en ‘Richie’ twee personen die ruim voldoende kennis van rugby hebben en daadwerkelijk weten waar RC DIOK voor staat.
Leon Koenen: “Na één seizoen met volledig rugby-pensioen te zijn geweest begon het vorig jaar weer te kriebelen om iets te gaan doen. Afgelopen jaar heb ik als assistent trainer/coach van de DIOK Dames al veel geleerd en een tof seizoen gehad. Nu wil ik mij volledig gaan richten op het geven van specifieke trainingen omdat ik heb gemerkt dat daar de meeste energie uit te halen is.”
Richard Manley: “Het is voor mij een nieuwe uitdaging en ik ben heel enthousiast. Veel van de spelers in de huidige selectie heb ik in de jeugd gecoacht en/of mee samen gespeeld, dus dat maakt het voor mij makkelijker. Ik denk dat we een goede groep hebben met Nederlandse talenten en daarbij over de gehele selectie een sterke basis hebben staan. Met de juiste aanwinsten vanuit het recruitmentteam ben ik benieuwd wat wij dit jaar kunnen brengen.”
Heren 3 komt in de vertrouwde en ervaren handen van het duo Chris en Tim Hudson en de ons bekende Wilnus Versteijnen wordt de hoofdtrainer van de Colts bijgestaan door Peter de Ligny. De Colts die naar de senioren overgaan zullen extra aandacht krijgen om de overgang zo soepel en veilig mogelijk te laten verlopen. Er wordt nog gezocht naar een hoofdcoach voor de damesselectie.
We hebben er het volste vertrouwen in dat we met deze trainersstaf een prettig en succesvol seizoen tegemoet gaan zien. | | | De junioren hebben in het pinksterweekend een fantastische trip gehad. Ze hebben gespeeld in en tegen Dendermonde en vervolgens tegen Antony Metro ‘92 in Parijs en op zondag een geweldige afsluiter tussen de nummer 2 en nummer 3 uit de Franse TOP14, die in Stade Francais van Bordeaux wist te winnen met 22-18. Match commissionair heren 1, future klasse en dames
Vanaf het nieuwe seizoen is elke ereklasse club verplicht een match commissionair (MC) aan te stellen tijdens een thuiswedstrijd. De taken bestaan uit: managen van de technische zones, managen en tellen van de wissels, de score en kaarten bijhouden en de tijd bij gele kaarten.
Wij roepen kandidaten op voor deze nieuwe officiële taak. Je hoeft niet veel verstand te hebben van de spelregels. Hoe meer beschikbare MC’s, hoe minder de inzet. | | Schoonmaakdag 14 juli 2024
| Op zondag 14 juli is de grote schoonmaakactie van ons terrein en clubhuis. Aanvang 10:00 tot uiterlijk 14:00.
Graag roepen we vrijwilligers op, met elkaar deze klus voor de start van het nieuwe seizoen te klaren. Neem wat spullen mee zoals bezems, schoonmaakmiddelen, emmers enz. Daar hebben niet veel van op de club.
Buitenterrein: onkruid verwijderen en vegen, rommel langs velden opruimen en materialen in opslagcontainers opruimen. Binnen: Kleedkamers, magazijn en tassenkasten opruimen en schoonmaken. Clubhuis: keuken en bar opruimen en schoonmaken. Teamroom en bestuurskamer opruimen en schoonmaken.

| Het einde van een veelbewogen seizoen is weer aangebroken. Veel werk is verzet om onze geweldige rugbyvereniging soepel te laten draaien. Dat is gelukt dankzij de tomeloze inzet van de vele vrijwilligers die hun tijd, kennis, vaardigheden en energie beschikbaar hebben gesteld aan onze geweldige club. Daarvoor is de club jullie uiteraard zeer dankbaar en we hopen dat jullie commitment ook volgend seizoen weer aanwezig is.
Om onze grote waardering te blijken nodigen wij jullie graag uit voor de jaarlijkse vrijwilligers barbecue op DIOK op zaterdag 6 juli, inloop vanaf 15.00 uur. Iedereen is welkom die vrijwillig een taak heeft vervuld in het afgelopen seizoen of dat komend seizoen wil gaan doen, meld je ajb van tevoren aan via onderstaande link.

| | Marga Deenen, appointed Member of Merit | On Saturday, June 29, our Marga Deenen was appointed Member of Merit by Rugby Netherlands because of her great contributions to rugby sport in the Netherlands in general and to women's rugby in particular. We can be proud that all the efforts of our honorary member have now also been rewarded nationally. Congratulations!
| | | | The classic Ameland beach rugby tournament took place again on Ameland on the weekend of 7, 8 and 9 June. Approx. 130 (international) teams competed against each other on the loose beach. Extensive attention was also paid to the farewell of Sarah Niggebrugge, who played her last active season, and words of thanks were addressed to the leaving (head) coaches: Lodie van Staden, Gareth Davies and Piers Tolson. | | Winner of photo contest 2024 | A year ago we replaced the large image in the clubhouse with an action photo of our own DIOK players during a match. Immediately afterwards the idea arose to create an annual contest for the most beautiful, dynamic match picture during the rugby season. In response to the call, more than 40 pictures were submitted from almost all teams, from small to large. This also shows that DIOK can add another tradition, the photo contest is here to stay. A few photos stood out from the entries. The jury made a choice from this and this year it became a photo of a line-out of the first men's team during a tough 'old school muddy' home game against the Oysters on December 9. The photo was taken by Erik van Kordelaar and really needs no explanation. The photo is now framed in the clubhouse. | | | We will publish other special entries on our website.
| | The annual ALV took place on Thursday, June 27. The meeting took place in a pleasant, open atmosphere and many good questions were asked and suggestions made.
The balanced budget for 2024-2025 has been explained in detail by the treasurer and has been approved by the AGM. The board position nominations have also been converted into appointments.

Departing secretary Arwin Akse was thanked for his good work and concerns. | | New head coach and trainers | As a club, we can proudly announce that Marshall Milroy will be the new head coach of RC DIOK 1 for the next two seasons. Marshall is an Australian, but New Zealand-born rugby coach who has played in positions 10 and 15 in the past. After the first conversations it quickly became clear how Marshall wanted to play and how he wanted to build the team.

We can proudly announce that veterans Leon Koenen and Richard Manley will strengthen the completely new coaching staff of RC DIOK 1 next season. With a view to the future, we as a club thought it was important that the team is co-led by players who have led the club and know the club inside and out. This means that we have two people, Leon and 'Richie', who have more than sufficient knowledge of rugby and actually know what RC DIOK stands for.
Leon Koenen: “After one season of full rugby retirement, I started to get the itch to do something again last year. Last year, as assistant trainer/coach of the DIOK Ladies, I learned a lot and had a great season. Now I want to focus entirely on giving specific training sessions because I have noticed that the most energy can be gained from that.”
Richard Manley: “It is a new challenge for me and I am very enthusiastic. I coached and/or played with many of the players in the current selection in youth, so that makes it easier for me. I think we have a good group of Dutch talents and a strong foundation across the entire selection. With the right additions from the recruitment team, I am curious to see what we can bring this year.”
Men's 3 will be in the trusted and experienced hands of the duo Chris and Tim Hudson and the well-known Wilnus Versteijnen will be the head coach of the Colts, assisted by Peter de Ligny. The Colts who transition to the seniors will receive extra attention to make the transition as smooth and safe as possible. A head coach for the ladies selection is still being sought.
We are confident that we will have a pleasant and successful season with this coaching staff. | | | The juniors had a fantastic trip over the Pentecost weekend. They played in and against Dendermonde and then against Antony Metro '92 in Paris and on Sunday a great finale between number 2 and number 3 from the French TOP14, who managed to win against Bordeaux 22-18 in Stade Francais. Match commission agent men 1, future class and ladies
From the new season, every premier class club is obliged to appoint a match commissioner (MC) during a home match. The tasks consist of: managing the technical zones, managing and counting the substitutions, keeping track of the score and cards and the time for yellow cards.
We are calling for candidates for this new official task. You don't have to know much about the rules of the game. The more MCs available, the lower the stakes. | The major cleaning campaign of our grounds and clubhouse will take place on Sunday, July 14. Starts from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM.
We would like to call on volunteers to complete this job together before the start of the new season. Bring some supplies such as brooms, cleaning products, buckets, etc. We don't have many of those at the club.
Outdoor area: remove and sweep weeds, clear debris from fields and put away materials in storage containers.
Inside: Tidying up and cleaning changing rooms, warehouse and bag cupboards. Clubhouse: tidy up and clean the kitchen and bar. Tidying up and cleaning teamroom and boardroom.

| The end of an eventful season has arrived again. A lot of work has been done to keep our great rugby club running smoothly. This was achieved thanks to the tireless efforts of the many volunteers who made their time, knowledge, skills and energy available to our great club. The club is of course very grateful to you for this and we hope that your commitment will be present again next season.
To show our great appreciation, we would like to invite you to the annual volunteer barbecue at DIOK on Saturday, July 6, from 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome who has voluntarily performed a task in the past season or who wants to do so next season, please register in advance via the link below.

Walk-ins are allowed, but registration via the SBG app is preferred.
