FUN IN THE MUD

DIOK 2 kept possession and put pressure on the RRC line but the lack to games during the last month was showing, too many knock-ons. Good defense from RRC prevented the Leidenaars from scoring, for a while but in the end Tom van Loon went over after some good work from the forwards. 5-5
RRC weren’t just going to lay down and came back with another unconverted try. 10-5.
Just before halftime DIOK 2 managed to get Mats Vermeeren into space for his first try for the second team.Freek de Romijn converted to make the score ate the break 10-12 for the blue and gold.
In the second half DIOK found their rhythm and started to dominate. With the wind now in their backs DIOK combined to get Reda Dadi over in the corner. It wasn’t a day for the kickers on both teams. 10-17.
After a series of penalties at scrum time DIOK turned the screw and number 8 Chris van Yperen scored the pushover try to bring the (full time) score to 10-22.
A great controlled performance and deserved result in the first game back from the winter break, playing with continuity on an old fashioned muddy rugby pitch in the wind and the rain against a determined opponent.
A special mention for the first year seniors that stepped up today, Tom, Mats and Owen Broers (yes, the son of...?). Man of the match for DIOK was Josh Stuart for his hard work and great spirit.
